National Workshop on Basic Life Support  

First aid makes a significant contribution to an ill or injured person’s recovery. The primary objective of first aid is to preserve life. First aid training focuses on providing immediate care to sick or injured patients until full medical help is available. Based on this, on February 16th, 2023, the Nursing Department, Faculty of Nursing at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a National Workshop on Basic Life Support First Aid, under the theme, ‘When the second counts’. The workshop was held for Pharmacy and Nursing Department staff and students.

The workshop started with a presentation titled: Introduction about Basic Life Support and Importance of First Aid for Every Single Person, presented by Dr. Dara Abdulla, PhD on Adult Nursing and Head of Nursing department. The workshop was divided into two sessions, the first of which focused on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Presented by Mr. Hilal Farouq, Clinical Instructor, began his presentation with “(And whoever saves the life of one person, is as if he had saved the life of all Humanity) Surah Al-Ma’idah – 32”. During the first session, all steps of CPR and the recovery position were presented, and almost all Participant Re demonstrate it. Finally, they were ready to save lives to save humanity.

The second session followed, covering the topic of first aid for choking. Presented by Mrs. Asmaa Yaseen, Clinical Instructor, she starts by showing the real choking scenario and then explains every step to save a casualty when choking occurs.

A Q & A session followed, in which participants engaged in lively discussions with Mrs. Asmaa Yseen. A redemonstration was also held: Life Saver Maneuver, CPR & Choking.
