General Health Education on Disease Prevention Community Social Project

All people, everywhere, have the right to achieve the highest attainable level of health. This is the fundamental premise of primary health care (PHC).

Primary health care is a whole-of-society approach to effectively organize and strengthen national health systems to bring services for health and wellbeing closer to communities.

Primary health care enables health systems to support a person’s health needs – from health promotion to disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative care and more. This strategy also ensures that health care is delivered in a way that is centered on people’s needs and respects their preferences (WHO).

Based on that, our fourth grade students, with the supervision of Dr. Kareem Fatah and Mr. Goran Nuri, visited Malfandi PHC in order to become familiar with all protocols and regulations for preventing diseases and promoting health in this PHC in Erbil City, such as vaccinations for pregnant women and children of different ages, family planning, child anthropometric measurements, eye checkups, tooth assessments, and controlling and treating chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure.

Our students created a poster and brochure on how to prevent and control diabetes, raise breast cancer awareness, and explain many other health issues to pregnant women in order to protect them from diseases and health problems. The PHC staff also spoke to the students about the most common health problems in the community and how to prevent those diseases by educating them and raising health awareness in the community.
