First-Year Interns Contribute to Sustainable Development Goals Through Team-Based Learning

In an inspiring example of early professional engagement, a group of first-year nursing students has demonstrated how even beginners in the field can actively contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through a collaborative, team-based approach, the students developed a simplified and accessible case study highlighting the role of intern nurses in advancing global health priorities.

The project was part of a course focused on sustainable development, where students were assigned to work in teams to explore real-world applications of SDGs in healthcare settings. Recognizing the complexity of the topic, the group aimed to present their content in a way that is clear, engaging, and easily understood by peers and the wider community.

The case study focused on how intern nurses, even at the early stages of their education, can contribute to several SDGs—particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education. Examples included promoting patient education, supporting infection control practices, and participating in community awareness campaigns.
