First Aid Training Course

Based on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) of the United Nations, the Nursing Department of the Faculty of Nursing at Tishk International University is delighted to announce the successful completion of “A six-day First Aid Training Course 24-hours” from 16th to 26th of September 2024, which performed as the first training session which was instructed by a distinguished professional and certified American Heart Association, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider

Raising community and public awareness of emergency management was the goal of this training course. It addressed the vital role of first aid skills and procedures for managing common injuries like choking, cardiac arrest, burns, poisoning, fractures, and bleeding.

The training course which took place from September 16th to September 26th began with an opening ceremony and welcome speeches by Dr. Hiwa Banna the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing followed by distinguished guests and organizers.

The first session discussed the vital role of first aid providers by Assist Prof. Dr. Dara Al-Banna the head of the Nursing Department. On the same day, the second session was done by RA. Ismail Khalid focused on airway opening, choking, and drowning in emergency situations. The second day featured CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) by RA. Shaimaa Shahab with the latest techniques and protocols in cardiovascular life support. The third day focused on (Bleeding and Shock Management) by RA (Hilal Farouq) while the fourth day covered strain, sprain, and fracture by RA. (Muhammed Hareem), also the fifth day focused on (Burn and wound care) by RA. (Hanan Azad), and the last day focused on biting and inhalation) by RA. (Asmaa Yaseen).

In the end, this comprehensive training is particularly beneficial for individuals with atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and other cardiovascular disease, as it enhances their ability to respond effectively in emergencies. Participants learned first-aid techniques and practiced them, refining their skills and improving response times in emergency scenarios. Attendees enjoyed a first day filled with cake-cutting and activities also Daily coffee breaks were provided for attendees to network, share experiences, and discuss the latest advancements in emergency medical services.

The closing ceremony on September 26th marked the completion of the training, where the trainers and participants were awarded certificates of completion. The training course emphasized the importance of advanced training in emergency procedures and the success of this training has set a precedent for future training programs, with organizers planning to further advance the capabilities of healthcare providers in the community.
