Workshop: Foundations for a Healthy Future – Advancing Education and Health for Children and Young Adults
The Faculty of Nursing at Tishk International University successfully hosted an interdisciplinary workshop entitled “Foundations for a Healthy Future: Physical Health, Learning, and Mental Wellness in Children & Young Adults” on December 18, 2025, at the Education Building, Conference Hall 302.
The workshop officially commenced with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Hiwa Banna, Dean of Faculty of Nursing, followed by a welcoming address delivered by Assistant.Prof. Dara Abdullah, head of Nursing Department. An introduction to the workshop objectives and structure was then presented by Miss Roza Talaat.
The academic program consisted of three thematic panel discussions.
Panel I: Physical Health featured presentations by Prof. Dr. Norhan Zeki Shakir and Dr. Mohammed Shakir, and was moderated by Miss Roza Talaat. This panel addressed physical health foundations essential for the healthy growth and development of children and young adults.
Panel II: Education included contributions from Dr. Walaa Dizayee, Dr. David Wafula Waswa, and Mr. Dizar Sedeeq Anwar, with moderation by Miss Zaynab Yassen. The discussion highlighted the role of supportive learning environments and quality education in promoting lifelong well-being.
Panel III: Mental Health brought together, Assistant Prof. Dr. Ban Sabah Yahia, and Mr. Ahmed Naif, under the moderation of Mr. Hilal Farouq. This panel focused on mental wellness, early identification of psychosocial challenges, and strategies to support emotional resilience among young populations.
The workshop concluded with closing remarks and key takeaways, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing health, education, and mental wellness challenges.
This event strongly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It reflected the Faculty of Nursing’s commitment to advancing holistic well-being and fostering cross-sector cooperation to build a healthier and more resilient future for children and young adults.
