Supporting Children with Disabilities Through a Humanitarian Initiative
As part of its ongoing commitment to community engagement, social responsibility, and humanitarian service.
In June 2026, the Faculty of Nursing at Tishk International University collaborated with the Kurdistan Foundation on a joint project. Following a decision by the Faculty Council, Ms. Mrwa Saadi was officially appointed to represent the Faculty of Nursing and oversee the coordination and implementation of the project, as a part in the “10 Problems, 10 Solutions” initiative organized by the Kurdistan Foundation in Erbil. This community-based program encourages participants to identify pressing social and health-related challenges and to develop practical, sustainable solutions that can improve the lives of individuals and families in need.
Through her participation in the initiative, Ms. Marwa identified an important need at Helena Center, a rehabilitation center that provides specialized care and support for children with physical disabilities and neurological conditions. The center serves children affected by stroke, facial palsy, paralysis, and other mobility-related and neurological impairments, and it plays a vital role in helping them receive the care and rehabilitation services they require.
After carefully assessing the center’s needs and the challenges faced by both the children and the staff, Ms. Marwa worked to secure support that would directly improve the quality of services provided at the center. Her efforts resulted in the provision of:
–Wheelchairs, which will help transport children safely and comfortably within the center and address the shortage of essential mobility equipment.
-A specialized rehabilitation device for children with facial palsy, making Helena Center the first rehabilitation center in Erbil to receive this important piece of equipment.
This achievement reflects the values of compassion, initiative, leadership, and community service that Tishk International University seeks to promote among its academic staff and researchers. Ms. Marwa Saadi Abdullah’s contribution demonstrates how professional knowledge, social responsibility, and dedication to public service can come together to create a meaningful impact in the community.
The university remains committed to encouraging its academic staff and researchers to engage in initiatives that support the community, address real needs, and create positive and lasting change through meaningful humanitarian and developmental projects.
